Many years ago, I wrote a book.
It was almost pre-Ebook. Certainly, pre-KDP and CreateSpace to publish. I didn’t want to let anybody know I wrote it, not out of pride or modesty, but because I have always been told to keep things anonymous. Yes, I am talking about that Alcoholism thing. It isn’t a life story or a lecture. It is simply the things I would tell somebody who had just walked through the doors to set their feet on the path of trying to do the 12-step program.
One evening, a woman waxed lyrical about how ‘this book’ had saved her life. What a quandary! Did I risk becoming filled with pride and tell her it was mine, or did I risk her embarrassment and let her continue to gush? Thankfully, something distracted her, and the next time we met, somebody had let her know I was the author, which earned me a big hug.
At that time, Lulu published a lovely pocket-sized paperback, which became quite popular. I give the text away free on the website as a PDF, but honestly, it’s much easier to pick it up as a paper copy or now as an Ebook.
I am pleased with what I produced so many years ago. During lockdown, I recorded the audio version. Did I know how hard it would be to do? Absolutely not! But it was a great project to keep me sane. I can’t set the price on Audible, but the audio files are free on the website.
I have been sober for many days, and I see many people posting in social media about how many days they are. All I can say is keep going; life gets better one day at a time. If we ever meet, give me a nod across the room.
I rarely discuss sobriety in the public forum of the Internet, but Substack seems to have encouraged me to give it a try.
